My visit to Biao Valencia Tugbok District to check some relatives turned to a scary and adventurous hunt. Tokay Gecko also known as "Tuko/Toko", has been reported world wide that it heals AIDS and CANCER. Thus, selling such creature makes you a millionaire! Pricing of Tuko flooded the internet. There are buyers who are willing to pay 70,000,000 million pesos for a healthy 490-gram Tokay Gecko. And, check this out, 700,000,000 million pesos is given away for a 1.5 kg tuko! Oops, I am not yet selling this. I am not yet a millionaire. We have to take good care first this wild lizards because wild caught tokays are usually stressed and less weight.

  5. i thought all geckos are brown colored species. colorful din pala sila sa malapitan.

if they are said to be cure for aids and cancer, they should be well taken care of, produce more offspring and get them bottled :)

  6. @danica

Geckos have a camouflage characteristics. They blend to their surrounding so people would have difficulty in finding them.

  7. I have just obtained my first male tuko gecko and added him to my flurishing reptile oaisis. I must say they truely are gorgeous little creechers but have the attitude of my pirhana's.
However he is very much welcome to my hand crafted rain forest

  8. Seriously, is there ANYONE who has seen a buyer even with 10.000 pesos in his hands? 70 million and 700 million pesos for a gecko? Regardless how valid the news are about its medical properties it is a sum which not even a millionaire would pay if having a cancer.

Even if it cures cancer, there are so many sellers that no one with sane mind would pay that much.
Its a hoax. And I pity those cute animals, as they are collected and eventually somehow killed, just like any other animal in the Philippines, where people EAT anything that moves.
The sea is empty, the forests have no animals. Everything is collected and eaten or consumed otherwise.
    Shame.

  9. Today, it's common to hunt for geckos and sell it for a million. It's said that it can heal certain health problems. You should probably wait for scientific proof that they can actually help so you can avoid side effects.

  10. Hunting geckos is common in Southeast Asian countries. I really believe that the environment needs them and we should let them live their life.

  11. its not real that these animals are cure to AIDS. this tokay gecko craze is merely driven by some people's enthusiam, ginagawang pet ito, interbreeded, para mka offspring ng napaka gandang resultang gecko.

  12. Had a large tokay gecko in house last night, I trapped it in bucket and released it unharmed back outside (too loud to have in house!).

No way will you get a lot of money for a tokay. But maybe you will get sent to prison for trading it - it is a criminal offense to do that in Philippins law.

These animals are a threatened species and do good by eating insects and pests. Leave them alone in Nature!!
