Please do not try me this time.
This is the simple yet strong request of the newly-installed Mati City mayor, Carlo Rabat during his inauguration speech. A request to everyone who wishes to derail, oppose and undermine the good programs he will be making for Mati.
After Carlo Rabat won the mayoral
race last election, the people of Mati are now hopeful for a change of administering
the city. Expecting of something big that will make the capital town of Davao
Oriental globally competitive in all aspects.
During the election, the
other camp highlighted that MATI is not for sale. On the other part of the thought,
for me, MATI IS FOR SALE. We must not forget that we have sources of good
quality crops and fruits. Are we not going to promote and sell it to the other
parts of the archipelago? That made in Mati products?We should also not forget
that the city is blessed with white and crystal clear beaches that are now
slowly gaining tourists and investors. Aren’t we not selling its world class
beach quality and the picturesqueness these very long stretched beaches have?
Are we that primitive and we don’t see pictures of Pujada and Waniban Islands
and the Sleeping Dinosaur on facebook and other travel blogs?They are selling
Mati, indeed. When an alien or a tourist buy our products and take pictures of
our places, let’s all be thankful because surely there is one or two promoting
our city. Let us all be reminded again
that the principle of earning is when there is buying.
"The City of Mati Tourism industry is the top priority it holds much promise in terms of what it would bring to our economy and people- revenues, employment, livelihood and the like. Yes, we have the beaches in Dahican and Pujada Bay, the Baywalk, the Handicrafts and wood work, the delicacies and ample tourist facilities and accommodations to start off with. " said Mayor Carlo.
Who told you that Mati can
be sold literally? How possible is that?
The people are not ignorant anymore. The masses were looking the brighter side
of that misguided slogan because Mati is for sale. I will count you being one of the stupid individuals if you take it
literally.
The end point of this
thought goes to tourism. Mati should embrace all the ways and means in
promoting this city.That the government should also be intensifying its aggressiveness
on exposing the fun, the scenic spots, the festival, and other future
interactive events . (Kinaya at sumikat nga

I believe the caliber and youthfulness
of his dynamic supporters and leaders under him. This time, let us all
repackage Mati. Stop the hate. Proceed the beat. Rock and Roll.
Last June 30 after the oath-taking ceremony of the newly installed Mati Mayor, the supporters
and friends, the Pang family of ER SUPERMALL funded and mounted a free-for-all
concert dubbed as Pahalipay ni Mayor Carlo ang VMayor Glenda with celebrities like Cristine Reyes, Aldred,Slater and Bianca Manalo.It was a big opportunity for me to serve my hometown again as I was given a chance to conceptualize and direct the show. Mati had fun. I did witness Mayor laughed out loud together with his closest friends along with the 15,000 people gathered at the Baywalk Park.
The entry of Carlo as the new mayor is a big shift. The previous mayor could have won and finished her term but the people of Mati seemed not satisfied with her performance. Thus, it is going to be a tough challenge to Mayor Carlo as he should go beyond the expectations of the masses. Fulfilling the pending projects which was created in good faith. Healing the wounds that the election has created. Selecting the best leaders who will be helping him to realize his dream for Mati. To protect the rights of every Matinian and to stand against political leaders who have personal vested interest in the resources of the promising Mati.
Mayor should also re-evaluate, assess and reform not just the system of each departments under him but also to the people who will be directly working under him because in every cave, there is always a snake waiting for the right timing.
