Kiss and Kick of the Battleship: A Review

It’s like another war while Transformers are fighting in the urban area. A war in the ocean between the robots from other planets with an advanced combat technology against an outdated battleship from a museum- the USS Missourri.

Summary? Just a plain defensive act of the United States Navy from an alien invasion. Their mission is to cease the invaders from transmitting data to their mother planet maybe for a back up or maybe queuing them to send more troops.A film from the company that brought us the TRANSFORMERS.

THE KICK
The story writer must be kicked for losing some important characters at the end. These characters have made the war victorious. Had it not been for the extra appearance of these extras, the lead act would be left useless. So, why the hell the director missed to recognize their heroic acts during the recognition of heroes for a job well done? The grandpas, the world war II veterans deserve a clap clap! Their presence hyped up the scenario as they give the viewers another kind of hope with smile on our faces. It’s rare to see oldies to hold and fire a 50caliber guns. Isn’t it?

The boy genius is gone in the picture so sudden. The plot dropped him after saving one’s life. He deserved a recognition too. He was part of the victory of the battleship war but he was left behind.

We were also curious of the detection capability of the aliens. Green means the subject is harmless and you are a threat if you turn red. This mechanism has drawn excitement to us viewers waiting for a twist on it since aliens see us humans, according to their eye gadget thingy, in GREEN mode. The cast didn’t even recognize it until the end of the show. The excitement about this thing was dropped that easy. I was kind of frustrated on this portion, I expected too much but it is not a big deal.

The retired coronel with an artificial robotic legs act so lousy. Yeah, he sounded good but as an army there has to be a magic. A kind of authority in his voice and the way he threw his words. Sorry for that, as much as I want to sympathize him but there was an awkwardness.

THE KISS
Of course, I don’t want to end this review with negative thoughts on your mind. The totality of the film is excellent. Entertainment wise, it passes the standard of the movie goers.

I would like to kiss the HASBRO for creating such CGIs. As I have said, it’s like I am watching Transformers here. The alien battleships are creatively crafted as it really give us an impression of awesomeness. As I have learned, rendering a computer generated water splashes and waves take months to completely become a moving ocean.

The USS navy ships are astounding. You would feel that there is really a war going on there in the pacific ocean. The director did not fail to let us comprehend the plot by providing visuals that are not just friendly to eyes but to our shallow minds. We are not soldiers, are we?
It is supposed to be hard to understand since the dialogues are authentically from commands inside military style of communication.

I love the portion when “Papa Chen” , a Japanese commander ordered the US navy to this and to do that after his battleship from Japan was wrecked. I remember the textbooks I have read. The Japan-USA in World War II was terrifying. I think, on this part, the director wanted us to feel friendship despite of dreadful past. (I called the captain Papa Chen since he looked like the Philippine newest actor who had his break in ABS-CBN’s soap My Binondo Girl)

The explosions and the war scenes are not overdone. Very entertaining. Despite of flaws, Battleship is worth watching and highly recommended to people who want to kick some aliens’ ass!

P.S. Rihanna is a no sexy here.No butt exposure or whatsoever. I didn't expect she acted so well. Her presence in the navy was so strong!Kudos.
