Review: Pacific Rim's heavy junks
Dragging fight scenes. Painful in 3D vision.Harsh camera framing.
One big mistake, I watched it in 3D technology without anticipating that I would be watching giant robots and giant monsters. So, it would also be not friendly if you are going to watch this cliche-ridden giant movie on a giant screen- IMAX
Heavy beasts fight each other in most of the running time but it lacks on creating an entertaining punches and kicks like Michael Bay's Transformers or even the classic Ultraman. I understand that those metals should be maneuvered by neutralized and synchronized brain waves from two pilots and that concept is simply awesome. What made me pale while watching it is the poorness of the film's fighting cinematography.
The story may be original and there is an emotion building as the plot turns to its final battle ground - to the deepest part of the sea but it dissolved the excitement as I was like carrying tons of heavy metals with problematic pilots trying to overcome conflicts within selves and with the dying world.Yes, it's like the movie is just spinning inside a big washing machine, shot in a very limited frames. Lack of establishing shots of scenarios and people. Where is the spark of excitement and thrill with this type of movie? Nothing.
Literally this heavy piece of junks gave me headaches after. I could see spare parts from Inception, Godzilla, Transformers and Real Steel. The first 15 seconds of the film, you will be hearing already roars and see hard punches which left me a conclusion that soon these man-made monsters will revolve to something special and entertaining. Sadly, film director Guillermo Del Toro failed to shift it to the next gear. Same beasts. Same effects. Same robots. For 131 minutes, I didn't see the element of what we called success justification of successful ads and promotion.
Luck Buckmaster of Crickey is all right defining the film as a heavy handed, heavy jointed, lacquered with heavy use of 3D and bulked up by long stretches of heavy machines swinging around heavy globs of concentrated CGI. In short, headache.
