AirAsia Zest skids off Kalibo runway

The air over Asia seems not good for budget airline AirAsia as 2014 comes to its end.

Another AirAsia plane with flight number Z2 272 from Manila carrying 159 passengers skidded off the Kalibo International Airport runway on Tuesday hours after 40 bodies and wreckage were recovered from the sea off the Borneo Island after an Indonesia AirAsia’s flight QZ8501 bound for Singapore from Surabaya Indonesia crashed on Sunday due to bad weather.

The overshot incident was caused by a strong wind according to the initial report released by the airline company.

In a statement AirAsia said: 'AirAsia Philippines confirms flight Z2 272 from Manila skidded off the Kalibo International Airport runway at 5:43PM upon landing. All 153 passengers and crew were able to disembark safely, no injuries reported.'

'All passengers are now at a hotel assisted by AirAsia staff,' they added.

Local journalist Jet-Damazo Santos was on board the plane and later uploaded photos of the overshot plane on her twitter account. She said that the flight had been delayed for two hours in Manila and one of Cebu Pacific planes bound for Kalibo, province of Aklan was forced to return due to the strong winds brought by Tro Seniang which was devastating the central Visayas.

'Engine was shut immediately, we were told to leave bags, deplane asap. Firetruck was waiting,' she said, adding that there appeared to be no injuries despite the plane coming to an 'abrupt stop'. She said on her twitter page.

MY NOTE:

Planes nowadays are built with sophistication powered by radars and tools that can detect storm cloud formation etc. Having all these features, it cannot still withstand the forces of nature. If Cebu Pacific flight was ordered to return back to the airport that day and why on earth AirAsia still pushed the flight through?

The emotional stress that is generated to every passenger when turbulence strikes is terribly crazy. I experienced it first hand several times and it was like hell. No one likes the taste of death. Now a question rises among the travelers, What is happening to AirAsia?
