Anti-dynasty : Tell it to the birds Mr President!

The last State of the Nation Address of President Noy Aquino has received claps and boos. It didn’t even show the true state of this country. I could still sense his selfishness and dirty politicking moves especially when he tried to threaten his foes by his plan to enliven the Anti-Dynasty Bill.

Doesn’t he come from a political family? Doesn’t he have cousins in the government? Tell it to the birds Mr. President.

In his SONA, he said:

"Kumontra akong pagkaitan ang isang tao ng karapatang tumakbo sa puwesto, dahil lang sa kanyang apelyido. Bakit nga naman tayo gagawa ng batas para pigilang maglingkod ang gustong maglingkod?

"Pero napapaisip po ako: May mali rin sa pagbibigay ng pagkakataong habambuhay na magpakasasa sa kapangyarihan ang isang tiwaling pamilya o indibidwal."

While it is true that this country is controlled mostly by powerful elite family surnames in every province, city or municipality, I still don’t like Pnoy’s immature action towards the dynasty system. Why? Is it because he will leave his throne by 2016? Is it because he knows that the controversial Binay family is in the hall listening to him?

Don’t get me wrong, I also don’t like the idea of having such country run by prominent surnames from councilors to executive positions. I go for the passing of the anti-dynasty bill but I am not confident if this law will really be reinforced considering the kind of justice system we have. Nobody gets real justice especially when eating meals 3 times a day is already a hard task. Let us all face it, Filipinos love to idolize especially if someone belongs to an influential family.

The poor becomes poorer. The rich becomes richer. The corrupt stays in power while tax payers die in hunger. The allocated budget for projects can reach to trillions but we can’t even have a decent public transportation system. This is reality. This is the real state of the nation.

Pnoy’s realization to pass the anti-dynasty bill is a historical move for a politician who came from a powerful surname. He appears to be brave to the liberals for he didn’t even think of his allies or his families who are in the position. Yet, for me, he appears stupid.

For a mindanawon like me, I was waiting for a portion of his SONA about his achievement or plans in Mindanao. I only heard him boosting the death of Parago, Basit Usman and Marwan. It looks like Mindanao is a sick land that needs to be neutralized. I am jealous of the infrastructure achievements and some documented projects he has done in some areas of the country as what he presented in his SONA with all the testimonials and statistics. Who cares? Have we felt such progress?

No concrete roadmap to make Mindanao a promising one. Only promises. Indeed, it is a land of promise…only.

I am from Mindanao, the food basket of the Philippines hoping that the next President should have a soul from this land. A man who has a vision of equal sharing of wealth and power. It is about time to change the system 360 degrees. Go for federalism.
