Duterte on GGV: Walang Forever



Davao City has gained popularity on social networking sites after a taped episode of Gandang Gabi Vice was aired Sunday night with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as guest. The hashtag #DuterteOnGGV trended online worldwide.

It was surprising to see Digong for the first on a comedy show. Even dabawenyos were literally shocked how Duterte handled Vice Ganda’s questions drawing laughters from the studio audience and televewiers.

A political blogger and a broadsheet columnist based in Manila, Tonyo Cruz posted his reactions about the episode. He said “ Mayor Duterte made our Bisaya kababayans mighty proud tonight. Great way to reintroduce himself to a national audience.”

Duterte is known for being “The Punisher” of the city. The tough-talking Mayor of Davao was accused for being the man behind Davao Death Squad who killed hundreds of drug addicts and pushers in his city. His guesting on GGV somehow changed the perception of some Filipinos all over the world.

“Watching Duterte feels real good - especially after years of shambolic and empathy-free Daang Matuwid. A pride of our Bisaya kababayans, he sounds, looks and feels empathetic, genuine and bigotry-free.” Cruz added.

Duterte also sung his favorite song “Ikaw” by Sharon Cruz and dedicated it to one of the audiences that got Mayor’s eyes. The girl from Cavite said the Mayor is very charming. Duterte also quipped “ Antayin moko sa labas” .

Vice Ganda has successfully invited Digong also to hit the dance floor in the tune of the infamous “Twerk it Like Miley” and “Nae Nae”. Social media was stormed by positive reactions from the netizens expressing their adoration with the cool Mayor.

The Mayor also taught the audience about love. He said nothing lasts forever in response to the popular love-aches expression “Walang Forever”.

"You only live once but you die several times in a lifetime... heartaches etc.” A hugot line by Rody who also intrigued Vice Ganda’s lovelife. Netizens were abrupt in transcribing the Mayor’s humor and posted on social media.

When asked about same-sex marriage, Mayor Duterte responded “ everybody deserves to be happy” which triggered members of the LGBT community to show their affection towards the Mayor who they think can support their future calls in the country that is greatly influenced by the church.

While Mayor Duterte still reiterated that Presidency does not appeal him, the tough Mayor has been gaining a lot of supporters around the country and his rating on surveys remained consistent. The netizens on twitter still positive that the next President in the country will be coming from Mindanao.
