The Youth is on Fire

You have heard the news. Teenages gone wild.

You have probably seen it on your facebook newsfeed as to how our teens got our eyebrows lift because of their unbecoming behavior.

We have seen reports of a young lady who was mobbed by drunk men and sexually harassed in an open rave party in Manila.

A series of photos showing teenagers who participated in an exclusive house party surfaced also on
social media. We have spotted young ladies twerking on boys while some boys seen licking girls' neck with vodka on it. Sadly, they were also 12-16 teens who seemed to be enjoying the party.

Recently, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has called the attention of ABS-CBN's reality show, Pinoy Big Brother 737, for showing teens uncomfortable bromance acts that housemates Bailey and Kenzo were comfortably doing which eventually spread on social media and caused debate among LGBTs and conservatives.

While psychologists say it was all normal and the kids were just longing for brotherhood care, it has still sent cringe among netizens who are concerns for their children who are regularly watching PBB.

Who would have thought that an angelic as Andrea Brillantes, Pangako Sayo teen star, who is only 12 years old would be the hottest topic on social media for her alleged video scandal? A video showing her intimate acts with herself was eventually re-uploaded on social media.

A day after Andrea became a trending topic, another photo scandal of a teen actor Marco Gumabao showing his penis while masturbating. Marco went to his twitter account tweeting " what a photoshop skills". While most of the netizens believe that he is the one on the photo, Marco wasn't affected and instead tweeted " Trending na ako, Okay yan, good morning!"

Another teen star Julia Buencamino, star of "Oh My G", has committed suicide and left her fans and families in shock. While the case is under investigation, a reported suicide note on her tumblr was discovered by her followers. In the note it reads that she wasn't happy of herself being a woman. She was obviously depressed of what the society might say against her.

Who can forget the case of Jiro Manio who suffered from drugs addiction and now psychologically unstable?

The youth is on fire. Why? What happend to the youth?

With the advent of social media, teenagers can easily access the world where their ate and kuya revolves. They can see people having a great time on a rave party. They can see asses and boobs. They think they can also be one of what is trending. To be part of the society.

Unguarded teens go to party and let themselves be drowned by alcohol. This is because they think it is okay to be one because social media say so. Consequently, this irresponsibility ends up to sexual harrasment or worse rape.

Bad parenting is the deal breaker here. Our kids won't be going wild if parents know how to deal with their offsprings who are growing in a different generation. If they allow total access of the outside world without guidence, the kids will surely go beyond the limit and try things that can really harm them.

Television on the other hand is one  of the mediums that feed teens an idea on how to act these days. They can see their teen idols wearing make up and sexy dresses. They watch TV shows where girls are teased to boys. Teens can see their idols crying because somebody has broken their hearts so these youngsters think that it is ok to keep secrets from their parents.

People in the media capitalize this generation and make money out of the trends the social media give by producing teen flicks and hard teleserye drama where kids characters seemed to be victims of the protagonist's struggle with a womanizer. This idea somehow gives the teens to be rebellious because TV says so.

And because selfie becomes a worldwide trend, teen celebrities who have an enormous followers on social media forget to protect themselves from opportunists who love to share private videos of them. This is again because celebs are subconsciously occupied by the selfie fever and do crazy things even with their own private parts. And yes, mobile phones can now record HD videos which somehow feed the curiosity of our teens to try shooting privately. Sadly, irresponsible teens forget the idea that anytime it can be shared publicly.

As early as 15-years old, our kids can be victims of severe depression which leads to suicide. Kids need our attention and they need to feel affection and this love affair must start at home. Even if they are celebrities, once the spot light turns off, nobody sees them. Nobody knows what they truly feel.

We parents should be warned with this generation. Let us all be wary and learn from the youths experiences lately that put their lives on fire.
